The Pompeii Trust
  AIMS

There is an outstanding opportunity to communicate to the more than 2 million visitors a year who come to Pompeii what we have learnt from modern archaeological research about the lives of the people who worked in the city and made the city work. We can also show what is lost over time if proper conservation is not carried out.

We are launching an integrated program to conserve the buildings of the insula, complete the full academic publication of the research, and present the results to visitors to Pompeii and wider publics.
Stage 1 of the program will concentrate on the House of the Vestals where field research is already completed. Work can begin here immediately funds are available, and the house could be open to visitors in 2005.

Stage 2 will move on to the Inn and the bars where fieldwork is already well advanced

Stage 3 to the House of the Surgeon and the Shrine, where excavation began in 2002

To succeed, this project will need to raise substantial funds beyond the $1.5m already produced from the AAPP Field School. Our best estimate is that the full integrated program will need to add over the next five years a further $2.25m.
