The Pompeii Trust
  POMPEII
Pompeii is one of the world's greatest archaeological sites. Its destruction by Mount Vesuvius has preserved the townscape of a complete ancient community. The importance of Pompeii is recognised by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, and the continuing need to conserve it is recognized throughout the world. Since 1997 the urgency of Pompeii's needs has been specially addressed by the Italian authorities.

Under new legal arrangements the Soprintendenza Archeologica di Pompei now retains all gate receipts, producing substantially more funds for conservation. This is already bearing fruit in projects throughout the ancient city. Still this is not enough to deal with the massive scale of the site. With the full support of the Soprintendenza Archeologica di Pompei, the Pompeii Trust is building on the long tradition of international research at Pompeii by making an international contribution to conservation.
